Gemini Embedding 2: Multimodal RAG Without the Plumbing

Gemini Embedding 2 shipped this quarter as the first natively multimodal embedding model — text, images, video, audio, and document elements (diagrams, tables) in a unified vector space, no bespoke chunking pipelines. Most production RAG today is a fragile stack of file-type-specific extractors, OCR, transcripts, and stitching logic. Embedding 2 collapses much of that into one model. Dario Amodei (Anthropic) — Securing the Supply Side

The response: long-dated, multi-provider deals — Google Cloud + Broadcom, Colossus from Elon, aggressive Nvidia procurement. The playbook: lock in compute now, across as many providers as possible, treat single-vendor concentration as a roadmap risk.
